| Personal History | Haulval's father was a half-Vulcan/half-Human civil engineer and mother was Vulcan medical research scientist in the government sector. He was born and grew up in a Vulcan enclave on Eridani D with his twin sister. He is genetically 23.54% human. His sister is 31.7% human. He does not have association with many extended family members, although it is document that his father has half-siblings who are human and there are human family members in his family tree, none of whom he has ever met. Haulval was a bright, inquisitive child. He excelled in mathematics and spacial computations and was scored above grade in most other areas of academia. Conversely, his twin T'Shi scored merely adequate in all scholastic areas, but excelled in physical training and enjoyed rigorous outdoor activities. They were very close growing up but, like all siblings, knew how to annoy each other with great precision. In secondary education, Haulval was guided further along his path with concentrations in advanced scientific theorems, physics, and quantum mathematics. He was not the best student there, but he was among the top "partial Vulcans" in the school -- a backhanded compliment he heard many times for someone of his "diversity." In his final year, he made up his mind to go to Starfleet Academy and he studied for the exam for six months. His instructors thought it a waste of talent, but he was curious and wanted exposure to more cultures and experiences. He passed the entrance exam with moderate ease. His sister decided to go into the private sector as a flight controller for a research company. In his first few months at the Academy, he was identified for the cryptography program of the intelligence branch. Although he had always envisioned himself as either a warp engineer or a biologist, Starfleet convinced him to go the route of Encryption Specialist. He took to training well and picked up an engineering computer operations minor as well. His first assignment was the USS Black Prince, patrolling the fringes of Federation space in a relatively quiet sector. They did not have a full compliment of Intelligence officers but he was there to handle encryption duties primarily of field reports back to the central system. Four months into his assignment, he recognized a pattern of alpha-wave interference that astrometrics had chalked up to binary star noise. He picked out and decrypted chatter from the interference coming from the uninhabited dual-star system. Upon further investigation, Black Prince was able to locate and scatter an Orion smuggling operation that had gone undiscovered for years. Chasing down Orion pirates became the ship's full time job for the better part of the following year. |
