Personality & Traits

General Overview Jarzo is a determined Officer, who never lets his physical limitations direct his life. When he wants something, he sets his goals and pushes himself to succeed. Many would say that he’s married to his career, and for the most part that is true. Secretly, he does wish to have a family but is realistic in that his career in Star Fleet might hinder that goal.

Off duty, Jarzo enjoys socialization and spending time in the lounge, or available holodeck. He is outgoing and keeps a busy life when not in uniform.
Strengths & Weaknesses + Diplomacy – Jarzo is a skilled speaker, with the heart of a Counselor with the brain of a politician. His years in the Diplomatic Corp have given him the traits needed to not only listen to the needs of others but be able to turn things needs into actions.

+ Adaptability - Jarzo’s unique requirements have taught him the need to adapt to any conditions. Having spent decades learning how to just keep up, he has a different understanding of limitations and social conditions that have served him well in the Diplomatic Corp.

- Type A personalities - Jarzo truly dislikes unreasonable, stubborn people. Super competitive people drive him nuts.

- Physical Limitation - Most when they meet the Lieutenant are not going to be able to see past the chair. Yes, he is fully aware the chair and his Elyasian DNA have held him back and will always hold him back physically. Despite this, he is determined to keep up and abhors special treatment. If you don't think he can do it, just tell him to his face.
Ambitions Perhaps one of the more unknown dreams of Jarzo is that he would like to secretly command a starship at some point. He realizes that is rather difficult in the career path he’s chosen but has set his sights on getting bridge qualified next. Aside from that, he truly has achieved the goals he has set for himself and is always looking for new ways to challenge himself.
Hobbies & Interests Oddly, one of the habits that Jarzo picked up in the Academy was painting. He found it relaxing and used it to help deal with the stress of living off of the Elyasian homeworld. He knows that none of his work will ever see a gallery or museum but over the years he’s gotten rather good. Recently, he has been commissioned to do some private work. One can typically find his work dotted all over his quarters as he likes to show off his private collection.

Personal History As a young child, Jarzo grew up listening to the great explorers of the Elaysian people. Those willing to take the risk and leave their homeworld for a life beyond the stars. Reading the logs, stories, and adventures of Elaysian’s like Melora Pazlar and others shaped his life from a young age. Listening to the stories of Starfleet and Federation, Jarzo set his sights on a future beyond his homeworld. While his parents attempted on many occasions to convince their young son not to leave, their words fell on deaf ears. The more his parents pushed the more the young Elaysian dreamt of a life beyond their world. Traveling the stars was the only future the young Elaysian could imagine.

Even from a young age, Jarzo was a child with a tender heart. Never one to lift a hand in anger at another, Jarzo tried hard to make friends with everyone who crossed his path. He took it as a personal challenge when he met that stubborn few who didn’t like his cheerful disposition. When Jarzo was of the proper age, he applied to and was eventually accepted into the Federation. The young child left his homeworld, uncertain of the future but determined to make it work. Like those heroes he read about at a young age, he knew that if he also worked hard he could make a career in Starfleet.

Wunderlust aside, Jarzo was in for a true dose of reality in his freshman year at the Academy. Life wasn’t as easy as he had dreamt it to be and the physical limitations on his body at times proved to be almost overwhelming. Scholastically, Jarzo excelled at his students. He was active and maintained a good social life. However, his Elaysian physiology made it almost impossible to keep up with his fellow cadets, physically. Jarzo tried on several occasions to make use of the external skeleton support devices provided by the Academy but found the devices to be too awkward and limiting. Jarzo still owns a skeleton support device when needed but prefers to use an anti-grav mobile wheelchair. While the chair limits his mobile to an extent, he finds it easier to deal with than clunking around a ship in the skeletal support devices.

Jarzo graduated in his class near the middle of the pack, something he still feels a slight disappointment in. Never one to use his physical limitations as an excuse, Jarzo does feel that his Elaysian biology did prevent him from accomplishing more in his Academy time. Much to his disappointment Jarzo found his first assignment aboard the Regula Class, Starbase 12. For a child who had dreamt of life amongst the stars, he found this posting to be a letdown. However determined to make the best of his, Jarzo found himself assigned as one of the station’s Diplomatic Officer.

Four years later, and a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade, Jarzo finally found himself stationed on the Sovereign Class, USS Tennessee as the Third Shift Officer. Ship life was everything he thought it would be. The Tennessee found itself assigned to the edge of Romulan space and frontline combat was exactly what the young Officer enjoyed. The Tennessee provided the young man with a taste of life beyond a planet, or a ship and he found himself wanting more; more species, more planets, and more new experiences.

A new year, a promotion, and a transfer back to a station. While Jarzo knew that station life wasn’t for him, he also knew that the experience would be invaluable in his career. Using the time on Starbase 24 wisely, Jarzo continued to learn, continued to grow, and continued to push himself. He was intent on, that despite his limitations, his next posting would be on a ship and as the Chief of his Department. He knew it was a momentous goal, but he was determined.

Jarzo saw that goal come to life as he was accepted for the Chief Diplomatic position on the USS Sovereign, a Galaxy Class.
