Jon Reynolds was sat on a bench; book in hand on the station opposite the viewer to where the starships were docked and being worked upon. It’s the same place he had spent a fair bit of time since arriving at Starbase 308. Just waiting around.

His ship, his new lady, the beautiful Galaxy class USS Andromeda was directly opposite him. But she still had a lot of work to be finished up and they were awaiting lots of new crew arriving. So he was stuck … waiting.

Liam, his twin had sent over the book in his hands along with some congratulations. He had hoped he could speak to him but his current posting – the USS Nogura had worryingly disappeared. Again there was nothing he could do there but wait for news.

He never had been a big reader but he appreciated his brother’s sentiment and it was interesting to read about the ancient Greek myths particularly the one around the ships namesake - Andromeda. Daughter of Cassiopeia and the Aethiopian King Cepherus, she had been so beautiful her mother had boasted she surpassed the beauty of the Nereids – the sea nymph's.

As punishment one of the Gods, Zeus’s brother apparently. The one who ruled the sea and hung out with the sea nymph's sent a monster to ravage her in divine punishment. The poor woman was chained to a rock in extreme danger when Zeus’s son Perseus came in the nick of time on a flying horse, fell immediately for Andromeda and rescued her. They married; she became a goddess and bore him 6 children.

“Happy ending,” he said to himself closing the book. “Liam always likes a happy ending. Love conquers all ehh brother? I’m living proof that’s not the case,” he shrugged then shivered involuntarily.

His ex wife Charlotte was on route with their son. She was neither happy nor pleased to be joining him but Eddie wanted to live with his dad. Her desire not to see him was less than being parted with her baby boy or to drag him through any further custody battle. It didn’t mean she would make his life easy though.

He was half human and had spent until age 11 growing up on Earth but he had to come to the conclusion from those experiences and on actually reading the book, ancient humanity had far too many gods. “Stick to four. They look after us fine on Betazed,” he said out loud. “And get us in enough trouble,” he added getting up.

“Same time tomorrow ehh Beautiful,” he winked in the direction of his ship. "There will be more than me here soon."
