Emme returned to their shared quarters in a fog. She wasn't unahppy with the news, just mildly shocked. She knew Aidan would be overjoyed, he'd talked about having kids. How was she going to tell him? He was sitting on the couch when she entered.

"A little bird told me you've been hiding from the doctor. What's that about?" She asked with a grin on her face.

Looking up, it was very easy for him to see that something was up. "Ah, you know how I hate these never ending physicals. Being poked and prodded and asked the same questions. I was cleared for duty just prior to our transfer, why do I need one again?" He sat up, studying her. "Why, is something wrong?"

"No, I was there getting my physical and I found it amusing that you hadn't come in. I figured you were hiding. I umm . . . I do have some news about my health. Nothing is wrong." Emme made that clear. "But I'm just going to come out and say it. Aidan, I'm pregnant."

Aidan was halfway to getting up from the couch when she said it and promptly his legs gave way from under him. Very un-elegantly, he dropped back onto the couch. "What?" he managed, "are you serious?" He stared at her, searching her face. "Really?" He knew they hadn't exactly been trying for it, and that she hadn't even been certain if she wanted children just yet.

"Yes." She said, anxious about what he was thinking. She assumed he'd be really pleased but he was staring at her with wide eyes. "I have a sense of humor but I wouldn't joke about that."

He made a second attempt at getting up and got up to her, taking both her hands in his. "Em, this is wonderful." His eyes shone, tears welling up. "This is marvelous news, honest. Are you happy with the news?"

"I think so. I mean I assumed you'd be really happy. I'm relieved you are, you scared me for a second there. I wasn't opposed to having children I just wanted to make sure I wasn't a single mother. I have you now though." She wrapped herself into his arms.

"You'll never be a single mother, not while I have any say in it," the Trill promised, wrapping his arms around her. "I'm very happy Em, very happy. And I still can't believe it, we weren't even trying for it. Did the doctor say how far along you are?"

There was a flurry of wind as Sherlock appeared out of nowhere, warbling happily at the happy emotions he sensed around his masters.

"About a month. I'm pretty sure . . . that day in the arboretum on Rhea." Emme looked up. "I wonder what Sherlock will think of a baby?" Emme asked, amused at his antics. She could already see him playing with their child on the floor, the baby grabbing parts of him and him being patient and letting the infant crawl all over him like a faithful family dog.

Sherlock chirped curiously. Aidan just smiled. "He's as thrilled as I am," he assured her as the blue kept making loops and twists around them. "He'll make the perfect babysitter, noone would get near but us." He sobered a little. "It's still a little early to announce isn't it?" He asked her, not really sure about the ethics on such a delicate subject. "What did the doctor say? I mean...Trill-Human hybrids aren't that common are they?"

"There are probably a lot of things I should have asked, I was in a bit of a fog when I left though. Next time. She said from what she could see the baby was healthy and in a normal stage of development which of course is just a speck at this point." Emme shrugged. "I have no idea how rare they are, I never researched it."

"Neither do I. I know my sister is a hybrid, she's half Andorian, and there's Jeremy who is half Romulan...but half Human I've never met. When is your next checkup? Do you want me to come with you?"

"It's not for a couple of weeks yet. And sure, if you want to. When the time comes, do we want to know the sex of the baby or should it be a surprise? What about names? There's so much to think about!" Emme reached up and tucked Aidan's hair out of the way. "I really hope he or she has spots. Would be so cute on a little one."

"I'd say that's likely..." Aidan smiled as she played with his hair. "what would you like to do? Do you want to know? I honestly have no preference as long as he or she is healthy." He paused, briefly looking stricken. "It is only one, right?" Having one was already daunting enough, two would be terrifying.

Emme's eyes widened and she laughed. "As far as I know. Twins don't run in my family. I think . . . . I would like to know. It makes names easier." She shrugged. "Lots to think about."

"Together." he wrapped his arms around her again. "And you're right it would be easier to know. Especially with decorating... I do think, we should keep this news to ourselves for a little while longer though, until we're sure everything will go alright?"

"Sure." Emme nodded, she didn't know who she would tell anyway. Her mother of course, probably Mara too. She wondered what Mara would think of being an aunt. The thought made her grin a little. "You umm . . . you don't have a preference then about the sex? Don't all men want sons?"

"I'm not all men," Aidan grinned, "and I honestly don't have a preference. Do you?"

"Hmm, no. Either way it will be apart of each of us which is pretty special because honestly I did not see us ending up like this. I suppose maybe when we first met I thought you were attracted to me. But then I found out you were gay and so I thought I must have imagined it. Weird how the universe works. This is not how I pictured my life going at all."

"Neither did I and here we are. Don't ever doubt I love you Em, because I do. I've always loved you, I suppose the way I did just happened to change. I never thought I'd fall in love with a woman, and yet I did." He paused putting her at arm's length to study her. "And I am the happiest and luckiest man in the universe, for I have the kindest and loveliest wife of all." He beamed at her. "And now we're going to have a baby." He turned his head as Sherlock seemed to whistle a familiar tune.

"Uhuh," Emme said looking up at Sherlock. "We need to have a talk about this little one. No leading him or her off on wild adventures." She pointed her finger up at him. But Emme really loved Sherlock and she knew he'd never put their child in danger.

Sherlock hooted at her, gliding down to sit on her shoulder and nuzzle her cheek. "No adventures, at least not until he or she is old enough to go on his or her own," Aidan echoed. "And yes, you can hum the baby to sleep if needed." He shrugged. "Gotta give him a useful task, right? And he does sing... well, hum."

"Great," Emme said. "That can be your official job." She let out a breath which was not quite a sigh. "I don't know about you, but I'm going to use the pregnant woman's prerogative, because I'm sure there are many . . . and take a nap."

Sherlock chirped, looking happy with his future assignment. Aidan chuckled. "Well whatever you need my love, and you shall have it. Oh I can't wait to tell my family...when the time comes of course... I'm so happy."

Emme smiled, kissed him on the cheek and walked toward the bedroom. She was glad Aidan was happy. And she was too, if a little nervous about the whole thing. But they would face it together.
