Amelia was holding Aethra to her shoulder as the couple made their way back to their quarters from Sickbay. Amelia was thinking about the conversation she had with the Captain, on how they were beaming down tomorrow night for dinner with someone who had just kidnapped several members of their crew. She had yet to discuss this with Syvar and was unsure how that conversation would go.

Still, right now they had their healthy baby girl and she was in a good mood.

"You're very quiet," Syvar commented as he led his family inside their home. "Lights," he instructed the computer, then held out his arms. "Why don't you give her to me, while you go freshen up," he suggested quietly. He felt his mate looked exhausted, and deserved some pampering after all the hard work of giving birth. "Would you like me to run you a bath?"

She smiled lovingly at him as he took the baby from her. She leaned in a gave him a kiss. "That sounds wonderful and I do feel completely drained. She sat down for a moment on the sofa. "Although I'm famished as well and have a sudden craving for a big bowl of stew." she added with a puzzled look on her face, not entirely sure where that had come from.

"Cravings? Post-partum?" He cast her a look of equal confusion as he cradled the baby in his arms. "I can understand the desire for food though, you did expend a good deal of energy, and you need it with nursing our little princess too... unless you want to bottle feed?" Shifting the infant to one arm, he headed to the bathroom to start the bath. "I can get you stew..."

"Thank you. Hey, I can't explain it either. My mother told me once that after she gave birth to me, she was ravenous for days but with my brothers, she couldn't stand the smell of food straight after having them." She smiled "As women, I believe we're allowed to be mysterious."

"I wish I knew what my mother felt like," Syvar said, a hint of sadness in his voice as he cradles their daughter closer, somehow finding comfort in her presence. "I don't have any active memories of my mother or my father. I don't even recall their faces." He sighed. "I'll get you anything you want... after your bath. Then you can feed her and we'll have dinner when she's put down for a nap."

Amelia stood and placed a supportive hand on his shoulder "I'm sure they'd both be very proud of you, as am I. We both are." she kissed Aethra gently on the head and headed for her bath. As she slipped in the water she called out, though not too loud as to distress Aethra "There's a small matter arisen that we need to discuss. I've... I've been invited to dinner tomorrow night. The Captain will be going as well. He feels it's an.." She paused as she tried to find the best spin to put on this "An important diplomatic engagement and my presence has been requested by the host."

"So soon after giving birth?" Surprise flickered across his features, though he had the nagging feeling she wasn't telling him everything. "Who requested your presence?" he queried, while gently swaying the newborn in his arms, watching her yawn and close her eyes. "Surely, you still have a few days if not weeks of leave to recover?"

Amelia relaxed in the bath, the warm water felt wonderful. "You know, I didn't actually catch his name.." which was the truth. "But the Captain will make sure nothing happens and yes, when I get back I'm officially on leave and so are you so we can spend time with our new baby."

"I'm not convinced," Syvar countered as he walked into the bathroom. "You just gave birth, you're in no condition to attend anything. Maybe I should go in your stead...What is so important that they need someone who is in no condition to go anywhere... this isn't right Amelia, they shouldn't have asked this of you. I strongly object against this." He shifted the baby in his arms as she started to make small sounds of protest. "Shhhh," he soothed, nuzzling the baby's cheek.

Amelia chuckled to herself as she got out of the bath and picked up a towel. "I doubt he'd be interested in you my dear and while I appreciate your concern, yes I've had a baby but I'm not made of glass you know. It's one dinner, that's all. We can relax together tonight and spend all day together tomorrow before I go, You'll only have to look after Aethra for an hour or so."

"I don't mind looking after my own child. I'd take her to sickbay and put her in the office if I'd have to. It's you I'm concerned about... there's a reason expectant mothers have this thing called maternity leave and not working after giving birth.. you need time to recover." He cast her a worried look, his green eyes sparkling much less and seeming dimmer than usual. It was evidence his concern was real and not feigned.

Having dried herself, Amelia slipped into a silk robe, loosely fastened around her waist. She came over to him, a loving expression on her face. "I know you're just worried about me but I'll be fine, really." She kissed Aethra gently on the head, then kissed Syvar. "Why don't you let me feed this one while you get some of that stew for me, please?"

Syvar nodded, gently handing the now protesting baby over to her mother. "Part of me makes me wish I could somehow do that too..." he marvelled as he walked off. It didn't really take long for him to get the desired dish, and he came back carrying two plates. This was one of the rare occasions where he would indulge in some meat, as he did maintain a mostly vegetarian diet.

Amelia smiled as she followed him into the living area and sat down on the sofa, letting Aethra feed. "When I have to get up in the middle of the night to do this, I'm going to wish you could do this too." She laughed gently before she winced a little as the baby's enthusiastic suckling "Someone's hungry."

He offered a special kind of pillow to help support the baby and lessen the strain on her, making both a little more comfortable. "I really wish I could feed her," he said sincerely as he watched them both. "And I would happily do so at night."

Amelia sighed wistfully. "Unfortunately, wishing for something does not make it so but don't you worry, I'm sure you'll be able to help out in other ways."

Knowing various ways to feed a baby, simply by having looked things up, Syvar wasn't going to suggest an alternative simply to satisfy his own needs or wishes. "I'm sure," he agreed instead, resigning himself to just watching them.
