A cry for help

Mission: Through the looking glass
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: MD4 Morning, after Diagnosis
1006 words - 2 OF Standard Post Measure

ON:

Syvar had been more exhausted than he'd been willing to admit, even though taking up a bed in the morgue was well...morbid. Still, it was the quietest place around sickbay and as soon as he laid himself down, he actually fell into a deep sleep. Unconsciously, his mind sought out the one he needed to connect to the most.

Surrounded by white once again but this time, not silent. The sound of a woman sobbing could be heard which came from someone curled up in a fetal position on the floor.

Turning his head, Syvar moved towards the sound. "Amelia?" he queried softly as he knelt at the woman's side.

Amelia looked up "Oh Syvar. Help me!" She managed to get out between sobs. "I don't know where I am, I feel so cold and lost...."

"I'm not sure either," Syvar admitted, "this seems to be that dream space we've been before and I still don't know how we get here..."

Another voice then spoke, another person with the same voice. “She’s here because she’s lost. Or to be more accurate, we’re lost.”

Another Amelia had appeared next to them, this one dressed in black leather. Her skin was pale, and her eyes and lips were dark.

She walked over to them “Hello Syvar. You’re probably wondering what happened. Our mind couldn't cope with the news and it shut down… fragmented… ran away. Parts of it are still holding on, resisting, fighting the inevitable but there’s no hope now, you should just accept what’s happened and what will happen.”

"What will happen?" Syvar asked, clearly worried as he held the sobbing version of Amelia close to his chest. "And there's no way I will accept this. I need my mate, my children need their mother. The ship needs their XO."

Another voice answered. “He’s right and you know it. I will never just accept this. I’ll fight you...” Another two versions of Amelia had appeared. The one who had spoken was wearing a Starfleet uniform, the other one wearing a flowing white gown. The one in uniform spoke again, defiantly “We haven't lost. We’ll get through this like we always do.”

The Dark Amelia chuckled “That would be our determination and drive. Our professionalism and sense of duty speaking. Courageous to the last. And…” she gestured to the other “Our maternal side. Our sense of family and love."

The maternal Amelia spoke. “Syvar I love you. I want to come home to our family, our babies, and to you. Please help. We have to protect her.”

Next to the other two, a young girl of about 8 in a pinafore dress appeared. She had long brown hair and was holding a bear to her chest. She smile and waved at Syvar. “Hi, do you like my bear?” she asked sweetly.

"She's lovely," Syvar said, forcing a smile towards the child. He turned back to the adults. "How do I help?"

"You can't" Dark Amelia replied. She looked at the child almost fondly. “And finally... We have innocence,” she commented. “This is the part of ourselves that we guard and keep well hidden. Amelia kept this part so well hidden that it was protected when her mind shut down and it was able to assert itself. There are others in here somewhere, the lover, the rouge, the diplomat, the engineer just to name a few... They are all protecting her, but they can’t hold on forever.”

In his arms, Amelia whispered to him a warning. “Don’t let her touch you.”

Dark Amelia turned to look straight at him. She was calm, yet there was an air of sorrow around her. “Don't you see? They want to help them to protect her from me. But you know the truth. You know who I am. I am acceptance, come to give Amelia the peace she wants so badly. No more worries, no more pain, no more fear, no more sorrow.

I am the darkness…

I am death."

Dark Amelia now started to approach the trio who backed away from her. The Amelia in uniform put herself in front of the others. She turned to the Maternal “Take her and go to the others. I’ll stop her.”

The Maternal nodded and, taking the innocent by the hand vanished. Command Amelia now turned back to the Dark one and adopted a combat stance, ready to defend herself.

Dark Amelia continued to approach, relentless. “It’s pointless fighting me. You cannot win.”

“We’ll see about that” Command Amelia replied and let lose a vicious attack, each blow Dark Amelia blocked easily, without effort and was ended when Dark Amelia took her opponent by the throat. The Amelia in Uniform struggled against the grip for a while then stopped and looked over to Syvar. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t strong enough.”

Dark Amelia looked at her with pity. “It’s not your fault. It’s time.” And with that, she leaned in and kissed her.

Command Amelia’s eyes went wide as slowly her uniform and her skin both started to lose their colour till she too was dressed in black, her skin a pale white. An exact copy of Dark Amelia.

In his arms, Amelia coughed. “Syvar, I don’t feel so good,” she whispered as blood started to trickle out of her nose.

The original Dark Amelia turned back to Syvar. "Do you see now? I am inevitable."

Syvar just shook his head as he continued to hold the person in his arms.

Meanwhile in sickbay

Amelia lay on a biobed asleep. Suddenly she let out a gasp and a moan of pain as blood started to drip from her nose...

In another area of the medical facility, Syvar bolted upright, panting for breath. A sense of dread, fear and pain washed over him and left him momentarily confused and disoriented.
