== Inside Amelia's mind ==

Syvar walked around, desperate for a glimpse of his bondmate when he found one of her fractured mental representations in a corridor of what appeared to be a mental representation of the Andromeda. "Amelia?" He called out, "can you take me to..." He paused, not sure how to express who he really wanted to see. "I need to find my Amelia... before the dark one takes her."

From behind him, someone laughed. On the floor was a pair of legs sticking out of an access port, the sound of tinkering coming from inside. "You really don't know what's going on in here do you?" the voice continued as she continued to work. "Who do think this 'Dark Amelia' as you call her is?" This Amelia asked him as she poked her head out of the panel and regarded him for a moment.

"I don't know. Her fears? Or a representation of her mirror self." He looked down at the engineer Amelia. "Please, help me find her before it's too late. Her body is dying, I need to save her. Please," he begged of her. "I don't know what's going on, I don't know why she's like this. But I need to save her. The girls need their mother, I can't do this alone."

The engineer Amelia stopped working and looked at him for a moment. "You don't have to tell me I'm dying, I'm trying to keep ahead of the system failures, " she gestured back to the panel she had been working on but it's not easy. She's sabotaging the ship's systems. It's only a matter of time..." her voice tailed off as she looked over his shoulder. Down the corridor behind him, the light started to wink off, one by one, the darkness moving closer to them. She grabbed his hand "We have to move! Now!" she stood and started to run pulling him down the corridor. She spoke as they ran. "You might be able to stop her... I don't know."

"How?" Syvar choked out, "I don't know how either." He ran with her, chancing the occasional look over his shoulder at the approaching darkness. "Where are we going?"

"She doesn't want me talking to you." The engineer replied out of breath as she continued to pull Syvar along, the darkness continuing to follow them. "She'll try to get you to kill her to stop her but you mustn't! That will end everythi.." The engineer winced suddenly and stumbled to the ground as if in pain as her legs started to dissolve into nothingness.

She looked at Syed, panic in her eyes. "You have to save her Syvar. Find the Innocent, she'll tell you how. She can explain...I.....Love..." Her voice stopped as the rest of her body dissolved and disappeared.

Find the innocent, but where? How? He wasn't sure how much time he had. Where could she be? Somehow, his steps led him towards the mental representation of their quarters and he stepped inside. "Amelia?" He called out.

Back in reality

Back in the Medbay, Roger stepped forward as the biobed readings spit out a drop in Cdr Fox's vitals. "Uh, nurse Koroka? Vitals are dropping." He worked quickly, trying to stay quiet so as not to interrupt Dr. Syvar's mind meld. "Stasis is failing..." Normally, he'd push the Dr out of the way and get to work but he knew that wasn't going to work in this case. "Maybe we treat it like one would treat Transporter illness?" He was lost for answers.

M'tara looked at Roger, "it is doctor." she softly corrected him. "However that could be an idea. We do need to concentrate on keeping her vitals up. I just hope Syvar is able to keep going."

C'Tora walked out of his office. " I agree that her vitals need to be kept up. " He paused briefly. " Computer, Authorization for ONE dose, five millilitres of Cordrazine. "

Authorization accepted. Responded the computer. A small hypo canister shimmered on the table next to him and he loaded it into the hypospray and handed it to Roger. " Doctor Harrison, would you please administer the dosage? "

C'Tora stopped and thought a moment. " Roger did I ever get you squared away on your access codes for the restricted drugs? You'll have to ask the computer to prep you a dose. The ones you'll need to know about are, " He held up his hand and began counting them off. " One. For Cardiovascular aids Chloromide maximum dosage of five to fifteen millilitres. Two. Stimulants. Cordrazine, maximum dosage of two to twenty five milliliters. Three, Sedatives. The most powerful one we have is Ambizine, maximum dosage of one to five millilitres. That's enough to drop a Klingon berserker in a full battle rage. Four Terakyne, with a maximum dosage of one to four millilitres, is more than enough pain killer for just about anyone. And fifth is Arithrazine an anti-radiation drug, maximum dosage of five to ten millilitres."

Roger simply nodded. "We had a similar setup on the Mercy," he said. "Thank you." The Mercy was his last posting.

Amelia's Mind

From inside their quarters, the sound of a voice singing... a frightened voice. The room looked a mess, like it had been searched. Furniture had been turned over, and drawers searched. Sat on the bed, clutching a grey furry teddy was the young girl. Her legs were drawn up to her chest, her eyes scrunched closed.

Slowly, the Vulcan approached the child and sat on the edge of the bed. Carefully, he reached out to stroke her hair. "Is teddy keeping you safe, as he should do?" He asked gently, "can I help teddy to do so? You see..." He paused. "It's my duty to keep people safe...."

She stopped singing and opened her eyes, looking at him slightly confused. "You don't belong here. You're not like the others. They were all the same. They were nice." She managed to smile "They said they had to keep me safe too but now... now they've all gone." She sighed "They say I shouldn't go with the lady in black but she looks just like them and she promised she would make the pain go away."

"The dark lady is doing that, trying to get to you," Syvar explained gently, "and she's making them go away to make you weak. To take you away from me, from your family." He reached to take her hand and put it between his. "You need to wake up Amelia, you need to come back to us. I'm here to help you do that, but I don't know how long I'll be able to stay here. I can't do this indefinitely, being here."

The young girl shook her head. "You've got it all wrong. She doesn't need to be feared, she needs to be loved. The others thought I wouldn't figure it out but I did." She added proudly. "I know who she is."

"Loved?" Syvar arched an eyebrow in surprise. "Who is she then, and where do we find her? Are you saying we should go to her, instead of hiding from her?"

The young girl looked around nervously. "I'm not sure I should tell you. You... Might think less of me... of us." She then took a deep breath, trying to find some inner courage. "She's the part of us that blames herself for what happened. She believes she.... we.... I deserve to die." She took hold of Syvar's hand and gripped it, pleading with him "She needs to be forgiven... She needs.... True Love."

"I would never think less of you," Syvar vowed solemnly, "you are as much part of me, as I am part of you now. Parted from me, but never parted, remember? I would do anything for you." He paused as he squeezed her hand. "We will find her, together, and we will give her what she needs most. Together."

"You have no idea what I need!" A voice came from behind them. Stood in the doorway was Dark Amelia. "You led me straight to her, that was foolish." She Held out her hand toward the innocent who was enveloped in a cloud of dark energy. She let out a cry of pain. At Syvar's feet, a phaser materialised.

Dark Amelia looked at him with a cold stare. "Now then Syvar, I've given you the tool to stop me, you just have to have the conviction to do what's necessary. Do it! Or I Will kill her!"

"No." Resolve was visible in the Vulcan's eyes as he kicked the phaser away. "You can want it all you want but I won't kill you. It would kill her." He nodded towards the child Amelia. "And you won't kill her because you need her. Without her, you die. You need each other and instead of trying to be the big bad, you should try to help her." He took a step closer to them. "And you should let us help you. You're part of us, like it or not and we love you."

For the first time, a flicker of fear crossed Dark Amelia's eye. "What are you doing? Stay back!" She took a step back away from him, trying to keep the panic out of her voice. "I'll do it! I swear I will!"

"No, you won't." Syvar moved closer again, holding out his hand, palm up. "You have nothing to fear from me, you're part of me and I'm part of you."

Dark Amelia took another step back but was now backed against a wall. "No! NO! It's my fault, MY FAULT!" She cried out and started beating her hands against his chest, growing weaker with each hit until eventually, she collapsed against him.

"No, it's not," Syvar insisted as he caught her and held her to him. "It's no one's fault. Please, come back to us. We need you, all of us do." He cupped her cheek, studying her for a moment. "I love you," he finally whispered, giving her what she did need most. She could feel his honesty if she listened, just as he kissed her.

Dark Amelia was suddenly engulfed in a brilliant white light that spread and dissolved everything surrounding them.

Back in reality

Amelia's eyes fluttered open and she took a deep breath. She placed her hand on his arm. "Syvar..."

Exhausted from the meld which had drained him, Syvar was too weak to respond. He managed a smile before passing out.

Amelia held him tight as tears started to run down her cheeks as she was finally able to grieve.

C'Tora caught Syvar as he slumped towards the floor and placed him on the bio-bed next to Amelia. He looked down upon Syvar as he lay there. " I'll be expecting a full report on this after you wake up from this Syver. " He turned to the nurse nearby. " We'll keep them overnight for observation and they can go home in the morning. And remove them from the duty rooster for tomorrow, doctors' orders.

M'Tara walked over and placed a blanket over Syvar feeling relieved that Amelia was awake, "If you will excuse me I'm going to check on Syvar's and Amelia's babies." With that, M'tara left the area.

After getting the couple squared away, Roger, too, filled behind M'tara, making an excuse about recording results in files. He didn't want to interrupt.
