Mission: Mission 1 - In the pale moonlight ...
Location: Aidan/Emme's Quarters
Timeline: MD6 21:30
847 words - 1.7 OF Standard Post Measure

Emme waited until they were inside their quarters before she said anything. "Ok, I know new Captains have different command styles and I know you've had nightmares lately but is something else bothering you? Is it the baby? Aidan, I have a tiny confession about that . . " She poured out the words quickly because she was nervous. "I umm, stopped taking birth control when we got married. I was trying to get pregnant." She winced. "I really thought you wanted a child, I thought it would make you happy."

"Of course I do," Aidan answered, looking up at her, "and it does. But please tell me you didn't just to make me happy? You want this too right? This isn't about what I want." He paused as he started towards the bedroom, already pulling off his jacket along the way. As per habit he had kicked off his boots by the door. "And no the baby isn't what's bothering me. What bothers me is first being kept from sleep to work on this decryption... and then being told to go to sleep. He had a go at me in the meeting before, and now he's kicking me off duty. I don't like that and now I don't know how to respond next time."

"He's new at this." Emme whispered, wrapping her arms around Aidan from behind when he'd stopped walking. "and we're all under a lot of pressure right now trying to figure out what's going. I bet under different circumstances the two of you would be friends. Is there something that would help you sleep? Humans like warm milk but are there Trill remedies for it? And yes, I wanted the baby," she added remembering he had asked her. "Maybe we can cuddle for a bit while you get sleepy and talk about names or something?"

"Perhaps your suggestion of knocking me out might be a good one," Aidan counter suggested, "and until that kicks in we can talk and cuddle. Do you want to know whether its a boy or a girl?"

Emme went to the replicator and brought back the strongest stuff she could get from there with a doctors approval. "Yes, I think you and I should know and obviously the doctor will know. But it might be fun to keep it a secret from everyone else? Maybe we can start a betting pool. I don't know what the prize would be, but it might be fun. Do you have any strong feelings about names?" She asked as she waited for him to drink and then pulled him down next to her.

"If it's a girl I'd like to call her after my mother, or the sister I never knew," Aidan said as he sipped the drink, leaning lightly against her. "For a boy, I have no suggestions really. I'm not sure I'd be able to keep it a secret, I can hardly tell people I don't know because that'd be a lie then."

"Aww," Emme pouted. "What was your mom's name again," she asked, changing the subject.

"My mother's name was Loni, my sister's Saeri." He gave her a small smile. "Maybe we can do a reveal party instead?"

"Hmm," Emme said, thinking about the names. She wanted to figure out a way to honor both of their mothers if possible. If it was a girl of course. "Saeri is very pretty," she liked that name instantly. "Well we have plenty of time to think about it and figure it out. "If it's a boy . . . I don't know, name him after both our fathers? That reminds me. Should the child have your last name or mine?"

"What is your father's name?" Aidan asked sleepily, "and I think my last name, isn't that Human tradition?" He tilted his face up towards her after taking another sip of the drink. "Or both our names? That's not uncommon too, isn't it?"

"Henry, you met him at our wedding." Emme reminded him. "And no, it's not uncommon to join names. Which we could do." Emme reached over to stroke Aidan's hair. "Worry about it later, you're supposed to be sleeping and I should stop jabbering at you."

"I like hearing your voice," Aidan murmured, almost inaudibly. Her fingers running through his hair was immensely relaxing and he closed his eyes. "What about a party? Doctor could arrange something with chef, make a cake and we'll all find out then."

"I'll think about it." Emme said, watching as his eyes closed and he slowly drifted off to sleep.

Sherlock quietly crept up to Emme, crooning softly as if wanting some attention too. He'd kept to the side as his masters conversed but now he seemed to feel a little left out.

She grinned and held out a hand to him, inviting him to cuddle between them. "What do you think we should name the baby?" She asked rhetorically with a small smile.
